Luca Dal Zilio (Geosciences) received the prize for findings in his PhD. Dal Zilio's work could help estimate the conditions under which devastating earthquakes occur – and thus lay the foundations for a risk-management and early-warning system.

Awarded article: Dal Zilio, L., Kissling, E., Gerya, T., & van Dinther, Y. (2020). Slab Rollback Orogeny model: A test of concept. Geophysical Research Letters, 47, e2020GL089917. https://doi.org/10.1029/2020GL089917
